Thomas Kobrick knows how to do everything, it seems. When I met him, he had already owned a recording studio, and worked in video production and acting, and it seemed to me like he was a rabbit hole type of guy. And boy, was I right. He had been in and out of music for the same reasons I didn’t even get started with it until my thirties: He didn’t believe he could do it. But when he decided to finally go for it, he went all in. And he’s living the music life collaborating, songwriting, producing and mixing with other artists, both in his studio in Manhatten, NYC and at this year’s VocalizeU in LA.

What fascinates me though, is the way he approached his return to music. He went about it in a quite strategic way:

  • His first year was the year of saying YES to every opportunity he came across in music, whether it be for learning, connecting or other
  • His second year he started to draw a line and say NO to anything that doesn’t feet into his music career

With this strategy, I’ve observed Thomas form incredible working relationships with artists (ours included) that provide him with a solid foundation to grow within music.

In this interview he talks about:

  • How his mindset has changed after years of self-sabotaging
  • How he got to a professional level as a producer, recording and mixing engineer
  • His thoughts about the changing music industry

Within Artist Springboard, Thomas helps students with all things related to recording, producing and video and we couldn’t be more lucky to have him as part of our team!
