We’re starting a series for you to write songs along with us! Introducing the WRITE-ALONG SONG Series with Sonj Marina 🙌🏻

In working with artists we’ve seen that one of the biggest struggles they run into is simply putting in the practice of writing, recording and producing songs. But it’s like any other thing: You need practice, not only to become proficient at the skill of songwriting, but also to discover your unique artistic style and voice. One thing all great songwriters have in common is that they write and create a lot of material.

So in this series, Sonj will take you by the hand and you’ll write songs together, using our head teacher Ra Wilson’s book “Write 47 Songs”. This book has been one of the core elements of our artist development program, in which singer-songwriters develop their skills and their unique sound through the creative practice and by sharing what they’ve made within a safe space of like-minded people and mentors. We’re excited to share a piece of this practice with the external world!

This series is for you if:

– You struggle to get started with a song

– You need inspiration and/or guidance

– You want to explore different approaches to your songwriting

In this first episode we go through exercise 08 in the book – Beat Storytelling. This one is particularly great if you struggle with drums or groove. The exercises are constructed as starters for your own creations. Feel free to use them in the way they serve your creativity the most, and make the resulting song yours! Don’t be afraid to experiment and explore different aspects of your creativity. And you’re welcome to get in touch if you ever get stuck :).
